Trabzon is easy with children as long as you plan around two things: rain and winding roads. The city side is straightforward — the seafront promenades, parks and the cable car up to Boztepe give short, high-reward outings that do not need a full day. Playgrounds and tea gardens sit close together, and most cafés are relaxed about kids.
The mountain trips are where families get caught out. Sumela involves a steep climb, and the drive to Uzungöl or Ayder is long and full of bends, which is hard on younger children. If the highlands are a must, break the day up, sit at the front of the vehicle, and keep a rainy-day indoor plan in reserve — weather here changes quickly and an indoor backup saves the afternoon more often than you would expect.
