Best area to stay in Trabzon
City centre, coast, Uzungöl or the highlands — a straight comparison of where to base yourself and who each area suits.
Trabzon city centre (Meydan)
Best for first-time visitors and short stays. Walk to Meydan park, the bazaar, restaurants and the Boztepe cable car; everything else is a short taxi away. Noisiest option, best value in low season.
The coast: Yomra, Akçaabat, Sürmene
Best for families and longer stays. Sea-view apartments and resort hotels, quieter nights, easy parking. Yomra is closest to the airport; Akçaabat is famous for its köfte and sunsets; Sürmene is calm and local.
Uzungöl
Best for one or two nights of nature, not for a whole trip — it is two hours from the city. Wooden guesthouses, cold clear mornings, very quiet after the day visitors leave.
Maçka and the highlands
Best if Sumela Monastery and the plateaus are your priority. Forest lodges, cool summers, limited dining choice.
Quick rule
Three nights or fewer: stay central. Family or a week: stay on the coast and take day trips. Nature first: split — two nights city, one night Uzungöl.
