Boztepe cable car (teleferik) in Trabzon

The cable car climbs from the Ganita seafront up to Boztepe hill — the classic view over the whole city and the Black Sea.

What it is

A short gondola line linking the Ganita coastal park to Boztepe, the hill that overlooks Trabzon from the south-east. The ride takes only a few minutes and climbs steeply over rooftops and tea gardens.

Why go up

Boztepe is where locals go for sunset tea. From the terraces you see the harbour, the stadium, the old town and the sea in one frame. Tea gardens serve çay, kuymak and pide until late.

Practicalities

Tickets are bought at the lower station and are inexpensive. Service normally runs through the day into the evening and can pause in strong wind or maintenance — check locally before you make a special trip. Taxis reach the top in about 15 minutes if the line is closed.

Best time

An hour before sunset: daylight for photos, then city lights with tea.

With children

The cabins are enclosed and the ride is short, so it works well for kids; strollers fit with a little patience.
